Help Needed

This is a humble petition. I’m just posting this in order to reach as many american teachers as possible.

This year I started working at a public school in Valparaíso,Chile. As you may know,I am a teacher of English, and I try day after day to ncourage kids and young students to learn English and try to be exposed toEnglish as much as they can.

We have a great lack of resources,we have a library, but the English section only consists on a few books and 1 book for kids- this is the one that kids like th most. It is so sad for me as a teacher,to know how my students are so happy with only one book in english. I just want to make a simple petition and see if this dream I have is possible. I am just trying to see if I can get help from teachers in America. The idea is to ask you to send me old books, books that are very worn out (I can fix them or repair them if they have some details). I want to try to have a library in english for them. Our school has only 600 students but the library has 3 dictionaries for the whole school. I have also written to our ministers and even our President to ask for help. Now I’m leaving this petition on my blog with the hope of getting a little help from all the teachers out there. So please if you wish to help me build this dream, just send an e-mail letting me know this. carolinapherrera@gmail.com

With love and lots of faith,

Miss Carolina.

    Miss Carolina,

I have an interesting proposition for you! I’m about to graduate with an education degree in Memphis,TN and will soon be moving to Chile to teach English as well. I’m considering trying to get into the public school system,as well as a few other job options. As an education student,I began collecting children’s books in the hopes of having a decent-sized library going for my classroom when I graduate, but then my plans changed and I won’t be teaching in the States. I have a nice number of books to get your library started,of several reading levels, and would love to donate them to you. What I ask in return is to possibly meet and discuss the job expectations of your position,as well as a few other things (such as where did you apply, how did you get hired, etc.) I know this reply is late as this post was made in May,but I imagine your need still exists. Please let me know if these books still interest you,as I will be traveling to Valparaiso for two weeks this spring, from Mar.1-13th in 2012. Let me know what you think!

  • Hey Rachel!
i appreciate your comment so much. Actually,at the school i’m working now,we do need a teacher for next year, from grades 8th to 11th. I would also appreciate if you could explain this a little more:“to possibly meet and discuss the job expectations of your position”(…). I’d be more than glad to tell you all i know about the educational system here, and the books would be very welcome.

    Thank you!
